Dear Student,

The Program for Acceleration in Careers of Engineering (PACE) is for African-American and Hispanic High School students (grades 9-12) interested in science, engineering or technology as a possible career path. The program offers classes and workshops on mathematics, engineering, leadership development, college preparatory skills, and cultural awareness. If you are a student that enjoys math and science and gets good grades in school, then PACE might be for you!

PACE-Monmouth meets on Saturday mornings during the school year at the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. Further information about the program, as well as an application, is included with this letter.

To be considered for admission you must complete an application, write an essay, get a recommendation from your guidance counselor, science teacher or math teacher, and provide a copy of your final school report card. Send in all application materials by July 14th. Only a limited number of students will be accepted so it is important that you return your completed application by the deadline.

Student applicants will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  1. Genuine interest in the program with an earnest commitment to fulfill all projects / assignments and to participate in all aspects of the PACE program
  2. Ability to attend most, if not all, PACE sessions
  3. Minimum 'C' or above overall grade average and a minimum ‘C’ grade in the applicant’s current math and science class (minimum ‘B’ avg. and math/science grades for all High School Senior applicants.)
  4. Level of interest in science, engineering and technology, as expressed in the applicant’s essay and interview
  5. Completeness of the application.

All applicants will receive an acknowledgment shortly after receipt of your application. You will be asked to interview with the Recruitment Committee in early August. A final decision on admittance will be made by the end of August. A registration fee of $85 will be due after admittance; $75 for each subsequent family member.
